Kurumbalakotta View Point is a prominent monolithic hillock located in the Kottathara panchayat of Vythiri taluk in Wayanad district, Kerala. Standing at an elevation of about 3,220 feet (981 meters) above sea level, this stunning natural landmark provides a spectacular 360-degree view of the entire green Wayanad landscape. It is a highly popular destination for trekkers and nature lovers seeking one of the best panoramic spots in the region.

The moderate hike to the summit of Kurumbalakotta View Point starts from Malankara and covers approximately 2.5 kilometers. The path is unpaved and rocky, offering a balance of challenge and accessibility for both first-timers and experienced hikers. As you climb, you’ll walk along beautiful grassy terrain, ultimately leading to the summit, where you can witness panoramic views of fog-clad mountains like Chembra Peak, Banasura Mala, and Ambukuthi Mala.

Historically, it is believed a Kurumba caretaker owned the “Kota,” or fort, here, which was allegedly constructed by a local king to monitor enemy activity below. While no traces of a fort remain, the area was once owned by the Vedara dynasty, contributing to the rich local lore of the hill.

The best time to visit and experience the breathtaking vistas at Kurumbalakotta is between September and March, when the weather is pleasant and clear. To witness the magnificent sunrise, an early morning start is highly recommended, trekking the final stretch in the cool, pre-dawn hours.

Kurumbalakotta is conveniently located approximately 15 kilometers from Kalpetta and 39 kilometers from Sulthan Bathery. Since there is no direct public transportation, travelers should hire jeeps or use self-driven vehicles to reach the base. Nominal parking fees are available for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Due to limited food options on the hill, remember to carry sufficient water and snacks for your visit.
